I came to faith as a teenager at Marlow Baptist Church. I was baptised by Pastor Harry Bennett in 1971. I played the piano for Marlow Gospel Singers for many years. I met my husband at the church and we were married there in 1980. I worked at National Westminster Bank for 28 years before leaving in 2002 to care for family members. I am currently Treasurer of the church and play the piano at many services.
God graciously touched my heart when I was eight years old at a children's mission in a church on the edge of East London and I came to trust the Lord Jesus as my Saviour. As I sought to follow the Lord Jesus down through the years I felt a call to full time service for the Lord and have spent my working years in pastoral ministry. When I retired in 2005 my wife and I moved to Marlow where we committed to Marlow Baptist church until 2016 when we moved away to be nearer family. I still retain my links with Marlow Baptist Church through regular preaching ministry and I became a trustee in 2017.
I was born in Sweden and grew up in Zambia in a missionary family. I came to faith as a young boy, but it was at University that my faith became more real to me. I studied at All Nations Christian College returning to serve Baptist Churches in Zambia for 17 years. We came to Reading in 1987 and I served Argyle Community Church for 30 years before being pastor at Marlow Baptist Church from October 2018 to September 2019. Marion, my wife, is a community nurse. My son, Carl is a neuroscientist in Germany and my daughter, Anna is a primary school teacher in the UK.
I came to faith in 1946 at Bury, Lancashire & started preaching in the Open Air & brethren meetings at 16. During National Service & later I was privileged to preach in many halls in England Scotland & Wales.
I met my wife in Kingston in 1955 & have been happily married since 1957. For many years I've been a member of Marlow Baptist Church serving as Pulpit Secretary on three occasions, during interregnums, including the present one. I'm also Church Secretary & Trustee.
REV KENNETH CLAASSEN (PASTOR)
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
